Basketball player Greg Olbrich suddenly dies on the court

A basketball player has died after collapsing on the court.

Greg Olbrich, 51, went into cardiac arrest during a game at Morphett Vale Stadium, south of Adelaide, on Wednesday night.

Olbrich had a successful basketball career that saw him play for the Adelaide Giants and Southern Tigers.

His death comes just a week after he celebrated his 25th anniversary with wife Jill, who he called his 'best friend, partner-in-crime, confidant and soulmate'

He won the Woollacott Medal – recognising ‘the fairest and most brilliant’ player – in the South Australian state league.

His death comes just a week after he celebrated his 25th anniversary with wife Jill, who he called his ‘best friend, partner-in-crime, confidant and soulmate’. 

‘Thanks for being you and putting up with all of my shenanigans. Can’t wait to see what life brings us next!,’ he wrote on Facebook.

Their son Lachlan is a promising youngster playing for the Illawarra Hawks.
