Battered like a Mars bar! Fans mock Scotland’s dire start to Euro 2024 with series of memes as they joke that Steve Clarke’s side have ‘given up’ and give Simpsons comparison

Football fans have mocked Scotland in a series of memes following their disastrous start to Euro 2024.

The Scots went into the tournament with high hopes under Steve Clarke, but it look less than 10 minutes for ambitions to start unravelling when Florian Wirtz put the host nation ahead.

Jamal Musiala added a second minutes later, and Ryan Porteous saw red after he lunged in on Ilkay Gundogan in a bid to make a goal-saving tackle.

Kai Havertz netted the penalty and Germany went into the break 3-0 down, much to the amusement of a number of fans on social media who wasted no time in producing memes to mock the Scots.

A number of supporters joked that the side had been ‘battered like a Mars bar,’ which is a traditional dish in Scotland, involving the famous chocolate bar being deep fried and covered in batter.

Things got worse for Germany in the second half, with Niclas Fullkrug to score a stunner to make it 4-0, and he thought he had added a fifth, only for it to be ruled out for offside.

Antonio Rudiger’s own goal was a late consolation, but the writing was on the wall for the Scots, and Emre Can added a fifth moments from time.

Another meme mocking the British side included a famous Xbox message, where one user messaged another: ‘Lad ya clearly the better player can ya just pass it around the back for the second half I wanna eat some toast.’

Another showed stewards failing to stop a series of pitch invaders, captioned: ‘Scotland defence against Germany,’ with a third playing on England’s rivals supposedly supporting teams the Three Lions come up against, reading: ‘Go and get the Serbia flags’ ahead of Sunday’s game.
