In one pic, the Sherlock actor can be seen running down the street with the head of the costume off.

The series is set in New York City in the 1980s and Benedict plays puppet maker and puppeteer Vincent who is the creator of the wildly popular children’s television show, Good Day Sunshine. He is searching for his missing son Edgar.

As he searches, he becomes increasingly unglued, more volatile and self-loathing.  and is convinced that he can bring Edgar home by getting his drawing of a blue monster puppet named Eric on television.

The official synopsis reads: ‘As Vincent’s progressively destructive behavior alienates his family, his work colleagues, and the detectives trying to help him, it’s Eric, a delusion of necessity, who becomes his only ally in the pursuit to bring his son home.’

Eric was created by Abi Morgan, who said: ‘Eric is a dark and crazy journey into the heart of 1980’s New York, and the good bad and ugly world of Vincent, a genius puppeteer on one of America’s leading kids TV shows.’

Gaby plays Vincent’s wife and Edgar’s mom Cassie. She was born into a wealthy family in upstate New York and fell in love with Vincent while they were at art college.

Cassie and Vincent’s relationship starts to unravel due to the disappearance of Edgar, Vincent’s womanizing and his growing volatility.

Filming for the six-part series kicked off last month in Budapest, Hungary, which doubles for New York City in some scenes.

Netflix shared the official synopsis to Twitter in November 2021, writing: ‘From writer Abi Morgan, this tense thriller tracks what happens when a young boy goes missing in 1980s Manhattan.’
