Big Brothers Daniel Gorringe reveals he used to ‘fake sickies’ to get out of AFL training

Former AFL player Daniel Gorringe reveals he used to ‘fake sickies’ to get out of training and the special skill he hopes will help him win Big Brother

He’s one of the stars of the upcoming Big Brother reboot on Channel Seven.

And Daniel Gorringe is hoping his time in the house will be a lot more successful than his former AFL career.

The 28-year-old former Carlton and Gold Coast Suns player told the Herald Sun on Saturday that there were times he’d ‘call in sick’ from the car park to avoid having to take the field.

Second chance: Former AFL player Daniel Gorringe (pictured) revealed to the Herald Sun on Saturday  he used to ‘fake sickies’ so he could get out of games as he only stayed on the team to go on the end of year trip

‘I’d go to training sessions some mornings and pull up in the carpark and call the doctor and say, “Look, mate, I am sick,” but I wasn’t sick, I just did not want to go in,’ he said.

Daniel said he stayed on the team because he loved the ‘social life’ and end of year trip.

It’s these social skills he is hoping to put to good use to give him an edge in the Big Brother house.

‘I am trying to be the big, tall, idiot of the house,’ he said.

‘My real passion is to make people laugh. I just wanted a reaction. The joke can be terrible but if I get one laugh that is a goal kicked for me. I want to entertain.’

Daniel has been doing just that since he retired from his lackluster AFL career in 2017.

Since then he’s amassed 76,000 Instagram followers by stripping naked for bizarre stunts, as well as taking part in some very questionable comedy skits.

One of his longest-running gags involves placing random items down his trousers. In past videos, he’s wedged a lemon between his buttocks, and a golf ball.

Daniel will be joined by 19 other housemates all vying for the $250,000 cash prize.

While the premiere is set for Monday, the entire season was pre-recorded from February till April.

However, despite not having even seen housemates enter the compound in north Sydney yet, David is the bookmakers favourite to take out the series.

As of Friday, Daniel is the current favourite to win with odds of $1.90 at TAB and $2.75 at Sportsbet.
