Blake Tickell 13 dies after tragic waterskiing crash Cowra

A 13-year-old boy has died after he was thrown against rocks in a tragic water-skiing accident.

National water-skiing champion Blake Tickell died after he crashed and sustained critical head injuries at the NSW State Titles at Wyangala Dam, southeast of Cowra in New South Wales’ Central West.

Blake’s devastated father, Darren, paid tribute to his ‘best mate’ after his young son died in the Children’s Hospital at Westmead about 6pm on Sunday.

‘In memory of my son, my best mate. Love you for eternity, Blakey,’ Mr Tickell said.

‘Blakey was wise beyond his years, an old soul, had love for everybody, and will be forever in our hearts.’

Mr Tickell reportedly saw the fatal accident from his boat on the Wyangala Dam.

In a statement issued by Ski Racing Australia on Monday, they said Blake was unconscious when he was recovered from the water.

They said he was treated by paramedics at the scene before he was flown to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, where he sadly died.
