A fire engulfed the rooftop of the famous Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo just days after a new suite was opened on another part of the roof by the royal family.

The exclusive hotel – featured in two James Bond films – was undergoing renovations to its roof when the fire broke out, according to their Twitter.

Images show toxic black smoke billowing from an inferno on the pristine white terraces at around 11am.

On Tuesday Prince Albert II and Princess Stephanie of Monaco had attended an inauguration ceremony to open a new suite – not connected to blaze – in honour of their father before officials.

The famous Hotel de Paris’ rooftop erupted in flames late on Thursday morning as construction was being carried out on its terrace

Firefighters rushed to the casino square as employees and hotel residents were evacuated.

According to Monaco Life the fire was a result of works being carried out at a spa at the top of the building.

However, the hotel have not yet confirmed what caused the blaze.

There have been no casualties reported and SBM – who run the hotel – said the fire was quickly extinguished.

The official Twitter for SBM Monte Carlo group stated: ‘A fire was declared on a part – still under construction – of the roof of the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo.

‘As a precaution, the hotel was evacuated the time of the intervention. There is no casualty, everything is now back in order.’

Just days before the royals had attended a ceremony for the opening of a suite in tribute to Prince Albert and Princess Stephanie’s father, Rainier III.

Fortunately the new suite was not damaged and the fire was contained far away from it.

The massive suite was designed by Richard Martiner and includes two bedrooms, an expansive living room featuring a bar area, as well as a smaller living room, library, dining room and study.

The suite also has a two-tiered terrace with a swimming pool and wide panoramas over the casino and the sea.

It pays tribute to Rainier III who made it his project to make Monaco the luxury destination it is today.

The SBM Group (Société des Bains de Mer) manage and run the Hotel de Paris, as well as the famed Monte Carlo Casino and Opera house.

The glamorous hotel was a favourite of Sir Winston Churchill, Sir Roger Moore and Frank Sinatra.

It was also beloved by Rainier III’s wife – Grace Kelly – who has a suite dedicated to her.
