Borussia Dortmund have reportedly joined Manchester United in the race for Brighton star Ben White as this summer’s battle for the £35m ace heats up.

The 23-year-old has taken to Premier League life with aplomb, regularly starring for Graham Potter’s side after performing strongly for Leeds in their promotion-winning campaign in 2019-20.

Marcelo Bielsa was keen on making White’s stay in Yorkshire permanent, but the Seagulls turned down three offers for the Englishman, with the final offer understood to stand at £25m.

Brighton’s valuation of White has increased by a further £10m and according to The Sun, the defender has caught the eye of Bundesliga outfit Dortmund, who have a proven track record of nabbing young English talent.

Dortmund have signed Jude Bellingham from Birmingham City and Jadon Sancho from Manchester City in recent years, with both youngsters thriving after making the switch to Germany.

BVB were also in for Ben Godfrey before the former Norwich City star opted to join Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton instead last summer.

The Germans are expected to face fierce competition for White’s signature, however, with Manchester United reportedly monitoring Brighton’s academy product. The Sun also report that PSG and Arsenal are in for White, too.

According to Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils are tracking the 23-year-old as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to bolster his defence this summer.

Real Madrid star Raphael Varane and Villarreal’s Pau Torres are also targets, while Dayot Upamecano was on United’s shortlist before the Frenchman signed for Bayern Munich.

The MEN reports that White is open to a move to Old Trafford and sees himself at one of Europe’s big clubs in the next few seasons.

United and Dortmund have history of transfer window tussles, with the Germans pipping the Red Devils to Bellingham last summer, while Erling Haaland opted to join Dortmund over United in January 2020. The Norwegian, now valued at £154m remains a priority target for Solskjaer.

White is a mainstay in Potter’s side, having made 34 appearances for the Seagulls this season as they look to avoid the threat of relegation to the Championship.
