Botched Novichok hit items to be incinerated

  • Experts will incinerate items contaminated by Novichok in an attempted murder
  • An attempt was made to murder former KGB man Sergei Skripal, 66
  • Mr Skripal’s 33-year-old daughter Yulia was also critically injured in the attack
  • Items which cannot be incinerated will be safely stored in a secure location  

Items contaminated by Novichok during the assassination attempt on a Russian double agent will be incinerated at 1,200C – hotter than molten lava.

Four months after the attack on Sergei Skripal, 66, and his 33-year-old daughter Yulia, soil, bricks, and other items are to be taken from sites in Salisbury, Wiltshire.

They will be burnt to remove all traces of the deadly nerve agent.

Anything that cannot be incinerated will be disposed of in a licensed hazardous waste landfill under tight regulations.

Items to be incinerated are being taken from various sites, including the house of Detective Sergeant Nick Bailey, who was one of the first officers at the scene of the Novichok attack on March 4.

Large sealed containers will be used to remove the waste.
