Box cutter blade inside dry dog food bag bought from Aldi

A Victorian pet owner has revealed how a rogue box cutter blade inside a box of dog biscuits almost caused him to injure his hand.

Jeff Simmons said he’d normally reach into the package to scoop out his beloved pooch’s dinner, but on Thursday night his partner, Ping Lim, chose an alternative method.

‘It was lucky because I usually put my hand in the bag, but my partner used a plastic container,’ he told Herald Sun.

A Victorian man has been given one heck of a shock after finding a box cutter bade hidden inside a bag of Aldi brand dog biscuits

‘She saw some darkness and scooped it out, put it in the stainless steel bowl and there was a ‘clonk’. We were both in shock.’

The doting pet father said it was a good thing they spotted the sharp object early, given that their dog, Storm, wasn’t one to waste any time when there was food around.

He said it was their first time purchasing the Aldi’s Julius beef dog food and it would most certainly be their last.

He explained the pair normally opted to feed their fury friend ‘better’ brands of food.

Storm was usually mixed storm a bowl of fresh meat and bread, with an egg and dog biscuits poured on top.

Mr Simmons said he was ‘still shaking’ when he went back to the store to return the problem bag of biscuits and dangerous blade.

An Aldi spokeswoman believed the incident was isolated and revealed the product would not be removed from shelves.

‘We were understandably concerned when a customer returned our Julius Dog Food because of the presence of a foreign object,’ she explained.

She said the company had responded to a Facebook message from Mr Simmons and would collect the sample to be tested by the New South Wales supplier.

It’s not the first danger to arise within the Aldi brand dog food, with another unimpressed customer blasting it on Facebook after she found plastic inside a Julius roll.

‘As I was preparing my dogs food I realised the roll had PLASTIC in it!!!,’ she wrote in an angry post to the retail giant’s wall.

She warned other customers to stay away and took it upon herself to let Aldi know that such occurrences were unacceptable.
