Boxer Damian Hooper has been remanded in custody on a string of charges

A former Olympic boxer is reportedly back behind bars after skipping bail on a previous offence.

Damien Hooper was arrested by police at a Toowoomba petrol station today where police allege he put up a fight with the officers making the arrest, 7 News reported. 

He was arrested after being accused of skipping bail for a previous offence and going on the run.

On May 19 police were called to a domestic dispute at the Blue Mountains Hotel in Toowoomba where an officer was also alleged to have been assaulted. 

Hooper had applied for the bail on January 18 of this year after being in jail from December 2017 after allegedly driving over a woman known to him, punching her in the face and burning her with cigarettes.

Police allege he gagged the woman, threatened her with a machete, and ripped the door off a home during a two-day attack.

He was charged with deprivation of liberty, assault occasioning bodily harm, dangerous driving and domestic violence charges, including wilful damage and strangulation.

The woman’s ordeal allegedly began on November 27 when an argument between the pair escalated into violence.

Hooper allegedly entered a car with a child present and threatened the woman before forcing her to drive to a Toowoomba unit.

On November 28 he allegedly pushed her from a moving car and ran over her legs, leaving her with leg injuries treated at Toowoomba Base Hospital.
