A 3-year-old Texas boy got lost and left behind by his teachers on a preschool field trip that his mom claims she never gave permission for him to be taken on in the first place.

Karter Williams, a student in the Houston Independent School District (HISD) Head Start program at Thompson Elementary in Houston, Texas, was stranded at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo last Friday when his class got on the bus and headed back to school without him.

Karter’s distressed mother Kelsey Williams has slammed the school for its ‘carelessness’ and claims she had never given permission for her son to be taken out of class to the event in the first place.

Williams alleges that a teacher’s aide signed the permission slip without her knowledge.

She also claims she only found out about her son’s frightening experience several days later.

‘What if he felt like, “I’m not going to see my mom. My teacher’s left me. My friends left me,”‘ Williams said to KTRK. ‘Was he crying?’

The incident unfolded when Karter was on a field trip with his class to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo last Friday.

At some point at the show, the 3-year-old lost his classmates and teachers.

The little boy was found wandering around on his own by a man visiting the rodeo, who then managed to reunite Karter with another class from the school which was also on a field trip at the rodeo.

Karter returned to school with this class after his own was already left on a bus back to the school without him.

To make matters worse, the school then failed to tell Williams about the incident until Monday morning – three days later.

‘Why did you not report it?’ the upset mother told KTRK.

‘Well, he was back at the school, we found him.’ ‘We’ didn’t find him. Someone else found him. A man. I don’t know the man’s name. I don’t know what the man looks like. I’m thankful for him, but I don’t know who that man is.’

Williams also voiced her disgust that it was the school’s principal and not Karter’s teacher who broke the news to her.

She slammed the teacher’s actions as ‘careless’ and ‘irresponsible’ and said she doesn’t feel comfortable leaving her son in her care.

‘For you to be so careless, irresponsible, nonchalant … I honestly don’t think that she should be an educator or someone to protect children,’ blasted Williams.

Williams, who has since met with an HISD parent liaison about the incident, is calling for the teacher to be fired.

The HISD released a statement about the incident.

‘HISD is aware of an incident involving a Thompson Elementary School student who was inadvertently separated from his class while on a field trip to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo last Friday,’ read the statement.

‘The student was located within minutes by an event attendee who quickly reunited the student with another class from his school. The student was safely transported back to the campus with that class. The district works diligently to ensure the well-being of every child entrusted to our care, as the safety of our students is always our top priority.’
