Given that I suffer from indoor allergies, I’m always seeking relief from my symptoms. Air purifiers come highly recommended because they clear the air of the pollutants often responsible for aggravating allergies, like mold, dust, and pet dander, to name just a few.

The Bionaire True HEPA 360° UV air purifier caught my attention for a couple of reasons. At a glance, it’s obvious that it’s a convenient device. At just shy of 18 inches tall, it’s compact enough to set on a tabletop. It’s also especially lightweight, so it’s no trouble grabbing the thick rope handle and carrying it from one floor to another.

Easy to use and stylish in design, the Bionaire True HEPA 360° UV Air Purifier offers several advantages if you’re looking for something that’s both space-saving and highly efficient.

Its combination of UV light treatment and ionic purification can be used with one of three settings to help you customize your treatment as per your specific needs.

The device features a convenient rope handle so you can transport it anywhere in the home. It’s also quite lightweight, so it doesn’t require much effort.

I liked those features right from the start, but would this air purifier stand out for any other reasons? I decided to put the device to the test so I could make the determination.

First, the basics: The best air purifiers offer clean air delivery rates (CADR), a standard established by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM). The higher this figure, the more efficient the device is at filtering particles like smoke, dust, and pollen.

It’s not a required measurement, but it’s noteworthy when a company volunteers that information. The CADR figure can help shoppers make a more informed purchase based on the size of the rooms they want to treat and their purification needs.

This particular model, being on the smaller side, has a CADR of 113 cubic feet per minute and is designed to clear the air in rooms no larger than 175 square feet. Armed with that information, I knew exactly where in my home I could try it.

Out of the box

Right from the start, I could tell it would be easy to set the device up. It’s literally a straight-out-of-the-box, plug-and-play device, so there’s little to no prep work involved short of setting up a space to set it.

Before beginning use, I unscrewed the cover from the bottom of the device and removed the plastic-wrapped filter. After unwrapping, I set it right back inside and screwed the cap into place.

The Bionaire air purifier offers six-stage filtration to effectively clear your indoor air of dust, debris, bacteria, and other contaminants.

Unlike the process associated with some other air purifiers, this particular step stood out because it was so quick and hassle-free. There are some models that require users to install both pre-filters and HEPA filters — and some even require you to cut them down to size. Not everyone has that kind of time, so I appreciated this convenience right off the bat.

The control panel situated right on top of the Bionaire air purifier is easy to use. You definitely don’t need to be tech-savvy to understand it, either. From this simple console, you can change the fan speed and set the timer to turn the machine on for four, eight, or 12 hours.

There’s also a night mode, which darkens the device, and even a night light if you prefer to keep a soft glow going throughout the night. It’s gentle, not harsh or overpowering.

This convenient air filter is sized just right, so you can set it almost anywhere in the home without taking up too much real estate.

You can also use the control panel to activate the ultraviolet light, designed to kill even more germs and bacteria. A built-in ionizer, meanwhile, is included for eliminating odors and harmful particulates from the air.

These features are optional, so you can easily switch from one setting to another or use them all at the same time if you prefer. In the interest of testing how well it treats the air, I used all of the functions.

The bottom line

There’s no question that the Bionaire True HEPA 360° UV Air Purifier is a true powerhouse. It conceals that within its compact confines. It’s not exactly monstrous in size, after all, but it had a formidable effect on my allergies.

Within just a day or so of use, I noticed an appreciable change in my symptoms, including sneezing and watery eyes. With cleaner air, I could breathe more easily and get back to what I was doing before my symptoms sidelined me.

You could easily glance at this air purifier and be fooled into thinking it wouldn’t do much for a larger space. But because it’s designed to work in even medium-size rooms, I found that it made quite a difference in several areas of the home.

The filter slips easily into the Bionaire air purifier's chamber, located at the base of the device.

For the price, that makes it especially appealing. You can use it virtually anywhere that space allows, from the kitchen to the hallway to the bedroom. The rope handle adds to its charm, making it especially easy to grab and go virtually anywhere.

It even looks nice, what with its simple, unassuming design, clean color palette, and sleek silhouette. It won’t disrupt the flow of a room or compromise interior design preferences.

The air filter itself should last for anywhere from eight to 12 months, according to Bionaire. This depends largely on how much you actually use the purifier. Checking the filter every few months, especially if you use the device often, is the best way to stay on top of it.

The bottom line: You won’t find an air purifier as straightforward as this. It does precisely what you hope it will do — and offers the advantages of a clean, unobtrusive appearance coupled with a user-friendly control panel that simplifies usage even more. You can pick yours up on Amazon now.
