A bride-to-be has died during her hen party in Austria after the tractor-pulled trailer she was standing on overturned and she hit a stone wall.

Jasmin Schwarnthorer was celebrating with her best friends in the Austrian town of Allhartsberg ahead of her planned marriage to fiance Bernhard next month.

The 26-year-old was among 14 women standing on the trailer which was being  driven by her 25-year-old brother Patrik. But the vehicle flipped over as it turned a corner on the journey from the family farmstead.

According to reports, Miss Schwarnthorer hit a stone wall and was taken by helicopter to a hospital in the city of Linz in a critical condition. 

She died a few days later while her niece and one of her friends are still in critical condition in hospital.

Five other women were also severely wounded and seven others were treated for light injuries.

According to local media, the accident happened when Patrik had to dodge a cyclist on the road while driving around the corner.

The police have launched a probe into the circumstances surrounding the traged.

Police chief Johann Baumschlager said: ‘The transport was illegal. The vehicle can only be used in agricultural operations or in the forest.’

Miss Schwarnthorer’s memorial service took place last Friday in the local church. She was dressed in her white bridal dress in the coffin.

Friends and family said they remember Miss Schwarnthorer as a loving and caring person ‘who always put the well-being of others in front of her own’.

She worked as a nurse and was active in a traditional music ensemble in the town.

The pastor said: ‘Why do we have to accompany Jasmin today on her last journey and not to her wedding?’
