British tech firm Arqit set to create 2,000 high-skilled jobs in UK after striking £1bn blank-cheque deal

British tech firm Arqit is set to create 2,000 high-skilled jobs in the UK after striking a £1billion blank-cheque deal. 

The London-headquartered business, which uses cutting-edge technology to protect businesses and governments from cyber-attacks, listed on the US stock market last week after merging with a special purpose acquisition company (Spac).

But Arqit, which has received ‘substantial’ government funding since it was founded in 2017, will confirm today that it will keep its head office in the UK, and hire staff here as it prepares to launch its first two satellites into space in 2023. 

Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng said: ‘Building back better means harnessing the latest developments in science and technology, so we want the UK to be the world’s first quantum-ready economy given its potential to deliver new jobs, skills and knowledge across Britain.’
