Buccaneers and Chargers ‘are expected to compete for offensive coordinator Kellen Moore after he was dismissed by the Cowboys’

The Dallas Cowboys have parted ways with offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who is rumored to be a top candidate for similar roles around the league. The decision was mutual, according to multiple reports.

Moore, a former Boise State quarterback who spent several seasons as a backup in Detroit and Dallas, has been calling plays for the Cowboys offense since 2019, before current head coach Mike McCarthy was ever hired by owner/general manager Jerry Jones.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that Moore is expected to draw interest from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Los Angeles Chargers, both of which have fired their offensive coordinators.

Moore had an impressive season in 2022, despite starting quarterback Dak Prescott’s thumb injury, which kept him out for five weeks. Dallas ranked 11th in total offense despite a rash of injuries on that side of the football.

The 34-year-old Moore recently interviewed for the Carolina Panthers’ head-coaching vacancy, which was ultimately filled by fired Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich. He was previously a finalist for the Miami Dolphins’ opening last year, but that job was given to Mike McDaniel.

Cowboys quarterbacks coach Doug Nussmeier is also not returning, according to ESPN.

Dallas’ season ended with a Divisional Round loss to the NFC-champion Philadelphia Eagles.
