Call me! Ryan Giggs’ brother Rhodri says football star can end their seven-year feud

Ryan Giggs brother says the football star can end their seven-year feud over his affair with his wife by picking up the phone.

Rhodri Giggs,  41, said he has not spoken to Ryan for nearly over seven years since just after the footballer’s affair with his wife Natasha was revealed.

The now Wales national manager said say sorry to Rhodri weeks later for the ultimate betrayal simply saying he ‘wasn’t thinking.’

But Rhodri said the apology was just hollow words and Ryan didn’t back it up with his actions and they haven’t spoken since.

The father-of-three said he also doesn’t speak to other family members because they sided with Ryan after the affair which was revealed in 2011.

But he said they were missing out because they don’t get to see his kids. And he revealed they have never met his four-year-old child.

Rhodri described finding out his big brother had been sleeping with his wife for eight years as being a ‘difficult time’ in his life.

In a cheeky dig, he also mocked his big brother for going bald. But he added that he has to have an amicable relationship with Natasha despite what she did because they have a 12-year-old son together.

Speaking of when Ryan contacted him after the affair, Rhodri said: ‘Ryan apologised a month or two months after the story came out.

‘It was a bit of a struggle at first, but he was over in Spain, when he came back we chatted.

‘We didn’t go into detail to be honest, just obviously he wasn’t thinking, blah, blah blah.’

‘He said all the right things, but it was a matter of action and it was all words. ‘I accepted (his apology) on the basis of following through what you are going to say, do it, don’t just say it, its easy to say things.

‘But he was too big to do that, its on him, not me.’

But Rhodri said they are not talking now and had not spoken since.

Asked how he’d feel if Ryan, 45 called him out of the blue now, Rhodri continued: ‘It’s not me asking him to do that. ‘But if he did (call me), get on with it, it may not work out, it may do.’

Speaking of the impact of the affair he said: ‘It’s something that was a difficult time, but its seven or eight years and everyone has moved on. ‘He (Ryan) has moved on and I’m sure he’s happy in his life.’ But he quipped: ‘I’m sure he’s not happy with his hairline.’

Single Rhodri – who has returned to being a HGV driver – said as well as not talking to Ryan there are other lasting impacts of his affair.

He said there are ‘personal issues’ between him, Ryan and their dad. ‘All I did is stop contacting my family and now its seven years on,’ he said.

‘All I did was stop ringing them. ‘But I’ve got three kids that they don’t hardly see and a four-year-old that they’ve never seen. ‘They are missing out, not me.’

Asked if his family had sided with Ryan, Rhodri added: ‘Well obviously that is the case because when the story broke, they were always with him. ‘I was in my own. ‘That has continued on for seven or eight years.’

Of his contact with Natasha he continued: ‘I’m sure she is okay, in fact I know she’s okay because I speak to her on a weekly basis because we have a 12-year-old son.

‘He’s at secondary school. ‘We have to keep on the same page because he’s a tricky lad.

‘He’ll say one thing to one, and another to another. ‘It’s fine, we don’t have any animosity. ‘My child is the most important thing.’

He said despite also doing a bit of football coaching and still playing for celebrity side Jet2Holidays All Stars – with Corrie and Emmerdale cast members – his focus is his children. ‘I’m very, very happy with my life. ‘I’ve got a good job, the kids are healthy that’s the most important thing.’

Rhodri is the face of a new ad campaign by bookmaker Paddy Power.

It plays on loyalty – or a lack of it in the Giggs family – and includes funny clips including Rhodri drinking out of a Manchester City mug.

Another shows him giving a cheeky wink to the camera when Wales lose and questions are asked of the manager.
