A seriously ill cancer patient has copped abuse in a shopping centre car park after she was wrongfully accused of having the deadly coronavirus.

The woman, 55, who receives daily hospital treatment for lung cancer, was wearing a face mask while picking up supplies at a chemist before heading into a nearby Woolworths in Sydney’s south-west when the shocking encounter occurred.

The woman’s daughter Rachel told 7news.com.au that her mother was repeatedly harassed by a man after she began coughing during her grocery shop.

The stranger then followed her into the car park and as she got in her car, drove past and yelled, ‘go home you dirty ****’.

‘She has to go to the hospital for cancer treatment daily and has to personally pick up her prescriptions from the chemist,’ Rachel said.

Her mother is now struggling to deal with the traumatic ordeal that left her humiliated and confused.

She’s now too scared to leave home amid fears she will cop more abuse.

‘She’s trying to put it behind her but now no longer feels comfortable going to her local supermarket of 20 years, since her cancer symptoms and mask cause suspicion,’ Rachel said.

The location in Sydney’s south-west is yet to be revealed.
