Carey Mulligan credits Keira Knightley for teaching her on set

She stars in the soon to be released film Wildlife alongside Jake Gyllenhaal.

But Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan hasn’t let her stardom go to her head – which she admits is partly thanks to fellow actress Keira Knightley.

In an interview with W magazine for their Volume 6, 2018 cover story, Carey said the Pirates of the Caribbean star was the ‘model’ leading actress on set and taught her ‘how to be a star without turning into a diva’.

The 33-year-old mother-of-two said: ‘[Keira] was brilliant, but she was also so kind and so sweet, and it sort of removed the possibility in the future of there being any excuse for being anything but lovely.

‘I didn’t need to put this into practice until years later, but she was the model of how to be a leading actress on set.’

The pair met in the 2005 adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, in which Keira played the leading role of Elizabeth Bennet while Carey was cast as her little sister Kitty.

On Sunday, Carey attended the New York Film Festival premiere of her next film Wildlife alongside onscreen leading man Jake Gyllenhaal, director Paul Dano, and screenwriter Zoe Kazan.

Carey portrays sixties-era Montana housewife Jeanette Brinson in the 34-year-old Golden Globe nominee’s directorial debut.

The movie is based on the Richard Ford novel with the same name and is about a boy seeing the breakdown of his parent’s marriage after his mom falls in love with someone else.

The film will be hitting US theaters October 19 and UK theaters November 9.

Missing from Carey’s side at the premiere was her husband – Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford – with whom she has a daughter Evelyn Grace, 3; and son Wilfred, 14 months.

The two-time Grammy winners are hard at work in Manhattan mixing their fourth studio album Delta – dropping November 16 – and they unveiled the track list on Sunday.

Mulligan and the 31-year-old Englishman were famously childhood pen pals before reconnecting on the 2012 set of the Coen Brothers’ folk tragedy Inside Llewyn Davis.
