Carol Alt looks back on her meager beginnings that launched an incredible career

Supermodel Carol Alt has revealed how her meager beginnings led her to appearing on more than 700 covers in her career that hailed her ‘The Next Million Dollar Face’ in the 80s.

The 57-year-old model would later shift gears to acting and authoring books, but commiserates about a time where models didn’t cross into the acting arena and the platform for reality TV stars to land big-time contracts was non-existent.

‘At the time, you built your career in modeling by doing covers,’ Art says in the latest issue of Art Bodega Magazine where she appears on the cover. ‘That’s what made you a household name. But it didn’t make you rich.’

While Alt says it took grabbing every job she could to make it as a young and hungry model, now as a health-conscience icon she has turned down several million-dollar contracts to only endorse products she wholeheartedly believes in and uses herself.

‘Back then, as a model you had to earn your place,’ Alt said. ‘We have lost our fascination with real natural beauty.’

Alt, who maintains that she has never gotten work done, spoke out about Kendall Jenner’s comments this summer about being selective over fashion jobs – which enraged many of her model peers.

‘I was the daughter of a fireman. What chance did I have against the Gwyneth Paltrows of the world?’ The native New Yorker told Page Six. ‘They were Hollywood elite, and Hollywood royalty.’

With today’s technology and cell phones, Alt says the days of running to a payphone to find out about your bookings are over, adding that she respects those models who start from nothing.

Alt was just 18 years old when started her modeling career after being discovered by photographer Bert Rockfield while she was waitress.

Alt recalled times when she finally wanted to break into acting, and how she lacked the respect from her peers as everyone assumed she was sleeping her way to the top.

‘First acting job I got was to play Ursula in Sweet Charity,’ she said. ‘I was hired by Bob Fosse.

‘I worked so hard…Little did I know that the rest of the cast thought I was sleeping with him!’

Art, who was married to her hockey star husband  Ron Greschner for 18 years, said she was faithful to her husband despite all the claims.

The Sports Illustrated cover girl previously revealed that their high-profile marriage ended in 2001 because he wanted children, and she was not ready.

Now, Alt is single and tells Art Bodega Magazine that she is focusing on maintaining her healthy lifestyle and revamping her modeling career.

She posed for the Florida-based publication’s latest issue while sitting on a Rolls Royce, dripping in gold and showing off her natural glow while also gracing the cover in a photo with nothing but a white fur and crystal encrusted bolero with red bottoms.

Alt has written multiple books centered on remaining health-conscience, including A Healthy You and a cookbook Easy Sexy Raw inspired by her own vegan and no-alcohol diet.

Her passion for all-things natural started decades ago – before it was the trend, she says.

As far as her personal life, Alt says she’s declined multiple offers to write a tell-all book – remaining tight-lipped about her relationships with famous actors and singers.

‘I am constantly thinking of creative ways to do business, to act, to model, to endorse product I believe in  and educate others,’ she says. ‘Art consists of being creative and I will always be an artist.’
