- Cesar Azpilicueta has admitted Chelsea have an ‘important month’ coming up
- Frank Lampard’s men’s are just six points ahead of Man United in fourth place
- And Azpilicueta feels their top-four ambitions will hinge on results in February
- ‘We can’t keep wasting opportunities,’ he said after draw with 10-man Arsenal
Chelsea’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League will hinge on how they do over February, according to Cesar Azpilicueta.
Frank Lampard’s men currently occupy fourth place but are far from comfortable with Manchester United breathing down the necks following Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with 10-men Arsenal.
Chelsea are just six points ahead of United, who can cut that advantage down to three with victory over Burnley on Wednesday night.
Cesar Azpilicueta believes Chelsea’s top-four ambitions hinge on results in February
Azpilicueta’s strike against Arsenal was cancelled out by Hector Bellerin’s last-gasp equaliser, leaving the Chelsea captain frustrated at a missed opportunity with David Luiz seeing red for the Gunners in the first half.
The Blues face tough games against Leicester, Manchester United and Tottenham in a decisive February, and Azpilicueta admitted they will need to be more ruthless if they are to finish in the top-four.
‘We have missed many opportunities to be higher up the table, so we have to learn from that,’ Azpilicueta said.
‘We cannot go back and change the results from the last few games.
‘And now we have three important games in front of us in the Premier League that could define our position in the table. And obviously every point is huge, and hopefully we can have good games and win them.
‘It’s going to be an important month. But every match is three points to be played for the same way we have been fighting for three points in every other game.’
