A vicious brawl has broken out between spectators and players in the wake of a suburban rugby league match.

The fight between fans and players for the Berala Bears and the Lalor Park Kookas erupted about half an hour after their A Grade game at the Terry Lamb Complex in Sydney’s south western suburb Chester Hill on Sunday afternoon.

Video shows a group of at least 10 men gathered, some shirtless or with torn shirts, grappling, throwing punches and stomping those fallen on a grassy area near the car park after the Central Wests Open Mens silver competition match.

A man at the centre of the brawl manages to gain his feet and stumbles clear with his jersey ripped off but still wearing shoulder pads.

He is mercilessly pursued and king hit as well as copping another brutal blow to the face before getting clear and running off.

Police were called to the incident but the brawlers had dispersed by the time officers arrived.

The police have the video of the fight and are investigating.

‘Investigators have not yet spoken to anyone involved and are urging anyone with information to come forward,’ police said in a statement.

Lalor Park had won the game 28-24.

A source involved with the Berala Bears told the Daily Telegraph were preparing to pull their team out of the league.

‘We’ve got a tough love policy, we don’t condone any violence, there is zero tolerance,’ the source said.

‘We told them at the start of the year if there are any incidents you’re gone then this, so after all this we sat them down and told them we’re pulling the team. It’s so frustrating.’

Berala Bears President Omar Sankari said he expected to get cited by the league but expressed relief that no one was seriously hurt.

‘People are going to get cited by the Parramatta junior league,’ he said.

‘Fortunately, no-one was badly hurt.’

Lalor Park secretary Sonia Smart said the incident was ‘horrifying’.

‘Based purely on the footage provided we are horrified at the events and that this could occur at a club football game,’ Ms Smart said.

‘We are investigating what has occurred. Our concern at this time is with our players and their safety. This should not happen.’

Governing body the NSWRL said it was reviewing the incident but it had a ‘zero-tolerance approach’ towards violent and/or abusive conduct towards players, officials and spectators.

The league has the power to suspend players, ban spectators and kick the teams out of the competition.
