Christine McGuinness explains why dating is her ‘worst nightmare’

Christine McGuinness explains why dating is her ‘worst nightmare’ a year after splitting from husband Paddy

Christine McGuinness has spoken out on dating after her split from husband Paddy.

‘The thought of dating is actually my worst nightmare,’ she has admitted. ‘I’ve just never really done it.

‘When I met my husband, we were friends first. I think that helped, it worked because I never had that pressure of, ‘What do I wear? Where do I go? What is the food going to be like? Will I like the restaurant?’ The idea of dating for me is petrifying.’

Christine, who has autism, added: ‘It’s sensory for me. A typical date, from what my friends would say, is you go for dinner, or you might have some drinks.

‘I don’t drink and I don’t really enjoy eating in different places with people that I don’t know. Once I’m comfortable with someone, that’s lovely.

Breakup: It comes after Christine and her ex-husband Paddy McGuinness announced their split in June of last year but have continued living together for their children (pictured in 2019)

‘But I don’t know how I am supposed to get to that point.’

Christine and her ex-husband Paddy McGuinness announced their split in June of last year but have continued living together for their three children – twins Leo and Penelope, eight, and Felicity, five – who all have autism.

Christine recently opened up on her unusual living arrangement with her ex-husband Paddy, admitting ‘I don’t know life without him’.

However, they have revealed they have remained living together with their kids in an effort to protect them.

Talking to OK! magazine, Christine spoke about the arrangement, saying she didn’t know how long it would last.

She said: ‘It’s certainly not a long-term or forever plan. It works right now because we’re both so busy and we’re in and out of the home so we tend to swap days and we’ll share.

‘It’s much like any parent really – juggling jobs and children. We definitely don’t want to upset them or change anything too quickly, and for me as well.

‘I like slow changes, and we’re alright – we’re family. I’ve known Paddy for 15 years, so I don’t know life without him. It is what it is.’

She added: ‘He’s happy that I’ve found a place I’m comfortable in. He was very proud of my book and my documentary.

‘He watched it and he loved it, and said he was really pleased that not only was I working but I was making a big difference as well.

‘It’s good he’s supportive because I need him to be. I need to be able to leave happily knowing the children are being looked after and safe. It’s partnership and teamwork.’
