An exasperated Cody Simpson was overheard complaining about his new love Miley Cyrus while enjoying a swim at a Sydney pool.
Simpson, 22, who has been in Australia to film the surprise TV hit The Masked Singer, was on the phone to a friend from Boy Charlton Pool on Thursday morning, when he was heard discussing his new romance.
‘We had a weird one yesterday… not really an argument but she kind of shut down,’ Simpson was overheard saying.
‘Yeah, it was kind of s**tty, but whatever,’ he added.
A Speedo-clad Simpson then spoke about the negative response to his new romance from fans in Australia, saying that his fellow countrymen remain loyal to Miley’s estranged husband, Liam Hemsworth.
‘I’m copping s**t here because of [her] exes. You know, her husband is Australian,’ Simpson said, according to an onlooker sitting nearby at Boy Charlton Pool.

Simpson and Cyrus have been splashing their romance across social media in recent weeks. But perhaps things are less rosy behind closed doors.

Speaking to Nova 96.9’s Fitzy & Wippa on Tuesday, Simpson said: ‘I told [Miley] I used to kiss her on the TV screen when I was little.
‘She was the only one that I had ever felt that way about when I was that age. I had a crush on her ever since I knew who she was.’
Simpson and Cyrus began dating just two months after the American singer announced her separation from Hemsworth, whom she’d married in a private ceremony in December.

In between her split from Hemsworth and romance with Simpson, Cyrus enjoyed a brief fling with Brody Jenner’s reality star ex, Kaitlynn Carter.
Following his marriage breakdown, Hemsworth has mostly kept a low profile, but was recently pictured kissing actress Maddison Brown on a night out in New York.
Neither Hemsworth nor Brown has commented on their relationship.
