Grisly end: Coronation Street fans praised the hit ITV soap on Friday night after the murderous villain, Pat Phelan, finally met his demise in a gripping final episode

Earlier in the evening, Pat had shot his own daughter, Nicola Rubinstein, and in a panic he rushed her to the bistro for help.

Yet things took another dramatic twist when he realised he was trapped in the restaurant and decided to take manageress, Michelle Connor, hostage – despite the fact it was her wedding day, so her doctor son Ali Neeson could save his daughter.

And after bursting into the kitchen with Michelle at gunpoint, he was unaware that his old nemesis Anna was secretly hiding there and she stabbed him in the chest.

However, before Pat finally met his long-awaited demise, there more twists in store for viewers as the builder decided to pull the trigger on Michelle and attempt to frame Anna for his murder.

Despite being told to keep the knife in position, or he would die, he yanked the weapon out and chillingly muttered: ‘I win.’

But Michelle and Anna teamed up together as they revealed they would claim it was self-defence – with the latter telling the villain that she had in fact won.
