ABC News Breakfast team including Michael Rowland and Lisa Millar go into isolation after coronavirus scare on set

  • ABC’s News breakfast team will be absent on Thursday as a ‘precaution’ 
  • Michael Rowland, Lisa Millar and Nate Byrne are self isolating 
  • A colleague’s wife was diagnosed with COVID-19 and he is awaiting his results  
  • ABC ordered the directive despite it going ‘above and beyond’ Health protocols

The ABC News breakfast team is calling in sick on Thursday as they await news on whether a colleague has COVID-19.

Michael Rowland, Lisa Millar and Nate Byrne have been taken off the air and ordered to self-isolate after a crew member’s wife tested positive for coronavirus.

The directive came from ABC Management despite the ‘precaution’ going ‘above and beyond’ Victoria Health protocols.

Each of the presenters shared the news on Twitter, with an assurance the impacted staff member Joe Sumic and his wife Laura are in good health. 

‘This precaution is being taken for the wellbeing of other ABC staff in Melbourne, and in the interests of public safety,’ Rowland wrote.

‘Importantly, Joe’s wife Laura is ok, as is Joe. The show will of course air as usual tomorrow.

‘We will update you with any developments. Thanks for your understanding!’

The time frame of their absence is unknown.
