Coventry City forward Viktor Gyokeres ‘is attracting attention from Premier League clubs including Brentford, Everton, Fulham and Wolves’ as sides look to bolster their squads in January

  • The forward is reportedly attracting interest from a host of Premier League sides
  • Viktor Gyokeres has scored 12 goals for Coventry in the Championship this term
  • On an impressive run of form with seven goals in his last seven appearances

Various Premier League clubs are said to be interested in Coventry City’s Swedish forward Viktor Gyokeres this January.

Gyokeres, 24, has impressed for Coventry in the Championship this season – and is said to have attracted the interest of the likes of Brentford, Everton, Fulham and Wolves.

A Sweden international, Gyokeres is currently joint-top scorer in the Championship with 12 goals and according to talkSPORT has alerted various Premier League clubs.

He has seven goals in his last seven appearances.

It is reported that Coventry value the player at as much as £20m, with it unclear as to which clubs will be willing to match that valuation.

Everton, struggling under Frank Lampard having only taken four points from their previous eight games, are extremely depleted in attacking areas with Dominic Calvert Lewin – the club’s first choice centre-forward – having been plagued by various injuries.

Lampard’s side currently sit a point above the drop zone with a difficult run of fixtures to come, including a trip to Manchester City on New Year’s Eve.

Meanwhile, Brentford’s interest in him could stem from the uncertainty surrounding Ivan Toney. The forward is currently being investigated over a number of alleged betting infringements.

Fulham seem the most well-stocked in the forward department, but could look for reinforcements to back up Alexander Mitrovic as they go in search of more points to ensure their survival.

Marco Silva watched his side brush aside a nine-man Crystal Palace on Boxing Day, a performance he was very happy to praise after.

‘It was a great team performance. We knew before the match we had to match them and be brave, and we did it. We knew they’ve been strong at home,’ he said.

‘Until the first goal we were the best team on the pitch. After the second goal we controlled the end of the game, scored two more goals and deserved it.’

Wolves, who have also been linked to the player, are the lowest scorers in the league at present – having only managed a measly 10 goals.

Julen Lopetegui’s side lost summer signing Sasa Kalajdzic just after the window closed to a cruciate ligament injury. They signed Diego Costa as a replacement, but he has struggled for an impact, managing zero goals in his seven Premier League appearances to date.

Raul Jimenez, so long the club’s talisman before a horror head injury sustained against Arsenal during the 2020-21 season, has also failed to find the back of the net.

Despite their last-gasp win at Everton on Monday, Wolves are under no illusions over their issues in front of goal and will seemingly strive next month to fix them.

Coventry will hope that the number of clubs interested will drive the price up for their 24-year-old forward.
