Cricket fan proposes to girlfriend at Ashes in Brisbane

This is the moment an Australian cricket fan proposes to his girlfriend in his swimmers at the first Ashes Test against England.

Michael Langridge, 27, proposed to his now fiancée Tori Roebuck, 24, on The Pool Deck during Day 2 of the First Test match between Australia and England at the Gabba in Brisbane on Friday.

Adorable photos capture the moment Michael popped the question, in front of millions of spectators watching the match around the world.

Both in their swimmers, and soaking wet, Tori appears to say yes before jumping on her new fiancé in celebration.

Moments after the successful proposal, hoards of cricket fans are seen jumping up in celebration.

The proposal was not only seen by tens of thousands of people at the packed stadium, it was streamed to millions watching on TV right across the world.

‘She’s a total catch! I can’t believe I get to spend the rest of my life with her,’ Michael told Daily Mail Australia shortly after he popped the question.

‘I bought the tickets three or four months ago. We’ve both bonded over the cricket and it has helped us through some tough times in our life.’

The pair met 12 years ago but didn’t start exclusively dating until two years ago – with Michael admitting Tori was ‘worth the wait.’

‘I uploaded pictures to Facebook trying to win a spot on the Pool Deck, so when we were picked it made sense for us to head back to the hotel and change,’ he said of the day.

'I've been walking around in budgie smugglers all day, just to get in here,' Michael said

‘While she was changing into swimmers I slipped the ring – which was in a safe – into a backpack with the towels… she had no idea.

‘Once we got to the pool I explained to the Cricket Australia staff around what my plan was and they held my backpack for me.

‘I got a completely random person to call out Tori’s name and distract her – which is when I managed to get the ring and ask her the question.’

When the proposal took to the screen, it caught the commentators off-guard.

‘Aw he’s proposed look at that, ah he’s doing well!’ one says.

‘I assume that means she said yes, all the kissing and what have you that’s going on!’

Speaking to a reporter at the Gabba, Michael said the proposal was planned, but it took hard work to pull it off.

‘I’ve been walking around in budgie smugglers all day, just to get in here,’ he told BBC Sport.

‘What better place?’

The Pool Deck debuted during last year’s day-night Test against Pakistan, but it is not an easy feat to get in.

One way to gain entry to the Pool Deck is by wearing beach attire and being selected from the crowd.

The other way punters can gain entry to the deck is by posting their photos to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #cricketpooldeck.
