A cyclist is suffering from a broken collarbone and fractured ribs after he collided with a hose that was strung up across a roadway. 

The hose was tied to shrubs from across the street at chest height. 

The 44-year-old man was biking along Goonawarra Drive near Quondong Street in Mooloolaba when the incident happened about 5.40am.

The man was knocked off his bike after the collision.

According to Queensland police, the man did not see the hose due to low light.

The cyclist was immediately transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital for treatment.

Police are seeking witnesses and residents who may have CCTV footage or dashcam vision that will shed light on the incident.

Residents living along Palm Drive, Tombarra Street, Pettigrew Street and Kalinda Avenue are urged to contact the police.
