  • Warriors star looked to have run out of space, before launching himself in the air
  • His try was the Warriors’ only score in the second half against Cronulla
  • Sharks secured a 38-16 win in Redcliffe to consolidate top-eight place

Warriors flyer Dallin Watene-Zelezniak scored a try-of-the-season contender on Sunday against the Warriors, with a jaw-dropping effort that saw him leap above Sharks winger Ronaldo Mulitalo.

With the Warriors trailing by 12 points, Watene-Zelezniak received the ball from Bayley Sironen on the right wing close to the sideline and there seemed to be no way past Mulitalo for him.

However, with the Cronulla man swiftly closing in, the Warriors winger launched himself in the air and leapt over Mulitalo’s desperate tackle to ground the Steeden over the line before landing out of bounds.

The bunker checked the grounding before confirming the try, leaving the Fox League commentary team in disbelief at Watene-Zelezniak’s athleticism.

‘Spectacular athletics here from Dallin Watene-Zelezniak,’ said former rugby league great Greg Alexander, while commentator Andrew Voss noted ‘the Redcliffe Leagues [where Warriors have been playing their home games ahead of returning to New Zealand] club has erupted.’

Unfortunately for the Warriors flyer, his try did not prevent the Sharks from running away with the game. Leading 24-12 at the break, Cronulla scored three more tries in the second half en route to a comfortable 38-16 win.
