David Beckham says he is ‘inspired’ after spending a ‘special day’ at the Invictus Games in Sydney

David Beckham has raved about his ‘special day’ attending the Invictus Games in Sydney. 

On Friday, the 43-year-old was spotted in the stands with his sons Romeo, 16, and Cruz, 13, as they watched the event’s athletics sessions unfold at Olympic Park.

Taking to Instagram later in the evening, the former football told his 51 million followers that he and his boys were inspired by the tenacity of the Invictus athletes.

Beneath a photo that showed him with Romeo and Cruz, David wrote: ‘Special day at the @invictusgames2018… So inspiring in so many ways.. All I can say is WOW!’

He tagged his sons before adding the hashtag: ‘#GameOnDownUnder.’    

The former Manchester United star is an ambassador for the 2018 Invictus Games, Prince Harry’s annual sports competition for injured war veterans.

David’s wife Victoria and daughter Harper, seven, are also currently in Australia, but were not pictured at the athletics event.

While attending the Invictus Games, David spoke told the ABC that his children are relishing their time together in Sydney.  

‘To bring the family over, to make them experience something like this is pretty incredible,’ he said.

‘It’s the icing on the cake for them to be here with their dad and their mum for a week. And then come to the games.’

The soccer superstar added: ‘It’s pretty special for the to experience a different culture, a different place.’

David went on to explain what he liked best about Sydney was the food.

‘I enjoy the coffee here, I enjoy the restaurants here, and the people have been incredible,’ he said.
