Delta Goodrem discusses her very private romance with boyfriend Matthew Copley

Delta Goodrem has been loved-up with her musician boyfriend Matthew Copley since 2017.

And while she sings of love in her soon to be released sixth album, Bridge Over Troubled Dreams, she won’t be divulging the details of her private life.

The 36-year-old explained to 9Honey on Thursday that while there were love songs on her new album, she needed to keep her personal relationship out of the spotlight.

‘I understand that people are interested, and I get it. I think that’s a lovely thing. But [keeping things private] feels right,’ she said.

‘I think it’s a balance. I mean, we do work together and we’ve created this wonderful body of work together,’ she added of collaborating with her beau on the new album. 

‘But I got into this for music, and connection, and touching lives and having that shared experience [with fans],’ she said, noting that her private life would stay private.

Delta and Matt confirmed they were dating in January 2018, but have kept their romance under wraps. The pair first met while on tour in late 2017.

The couple is notoriously private, and rarely posts about each other on social media.

But last year under Covid lockdown, the musically talented pair kept spirits up with a series of concerts online called The Bunkerdown Sessions.

Collaborating: Delta and Matt confirmed they were dating in January 2018. She said of working with him for her new album: ‘I think it’s a balance. I mean, we do work together and we’ve created this wonderful body of work together’

In May 2020, Delta spoke about their relationship with Stellar Magazine, calling their relationship ‘respectful’ and ‘musically creative’.

‘I am pretty consistent with saying to people that my private life is my private life, but we are spending isolation together and, in our household, we’re both performers.

She continued: ‘It’s a relationship of respect. Matt is an incredible musician and we really enjoy working together.

‘Music is how we met, it’s what we both do, so it’s really about just being creative in the household.’ 

She has previously been in a string of high profile relationships including tennis star Mark Philippoussis, former Westlife singer Brian McFadden and Nick Jonas.
