A Detroit police officer who shared a ‘highly insensitive’ post on Snapchat has been fired.

Officer Sean Bostwick shared a selfie on Snapchat with the caption: ‘Another night to Rangel up these zoo animals.’

Bostwick was suspended with pay on Sunday, but Detroit Police Chief James Craig announced that the officer will be removed from the payroll effective Tuesday morning.

Craig told FOX 2 that Bostwick voluntarily removed the post but it had already made its rounds on the internet.

Bostwick reportedly expressed remorse for the post and said he didn’t mean it the way it came off.

‘His reasoning certainly didn’t pass muster,’ Craig said during a press conference on Monday.

‘I mean, what were you trying to say? What was the true intent of your statement? Highly insensitive. … Our officers were deeply troubled by him making these comments,’ Craig added.

According to Fox 2, the officer had only been working for the department for two months.

It was also revealed that Bostwick had to complete the six-month academy twice before joining the force due to low test scores.

The commanding officer of the 12th precinct said she ‘had some concerns about his adaptation to training’, which led to Bostwick entering the academy for a second time.

He was still in his probationary period when the snap was posted.

Craig said if Bostwick had been confirmed there would have been a ‘different process’ for his termination.
