Diane von Furstenberg’s granddaughter Talita models an original design from 1973 in new DVF campaign

Socialite Talita von Furstenberg is starring in a stunning new campaign celebrating the revival of one of her grandmother Diane von Furstenberg’s iconic original designs from 1973.

The 23-year-old, who is the daughter of Prince Alexander von Furstenberg and his first wife, Alexandra von Furstenberg, handpicked the green printed wrap top and matching pants from the DVF archives for a limited reissue.

The look was the second design Diane ever put into production, and it was famously worn by supermodel Cheryl Tiegs in a 1974 issue of Vogue after it caught the eye of the magazine’s famed editor-in-chief Diana Vreeland.

Talita channeled Cheryl while modeling the boldly patterned two-piece in a playful outdoor shoot for ‘The Originals’ campaign. She replicated Cheryl’s pose while sitting on a wooden fence wearing the wrap top and flared pants.

Diane, 75, opened up about the creation of the wrap set in a video celebrating its revival nearly 50 years after it was first launched.

‘I did this completely,’ she explained. ‘First, it was a wrap top, and the idea was what the ballerinas wear to warm up. Originally it came with a skirt, but this one I made with pants.’

Diane was married to her first husband, Prince Egon von Furstenberg, when she came up with the idea for the cotton jersey set, which consisted of a wrap top with cuffed sleeves and a collar paired with flared pants.

She was in charge of every part of the design, including the tile mosaic print, which she drew herself.

‘Diana Vreeland loved it,’ Diane said, recalling how the editor-in-chief had Bob Stone photograph Cheryl wearing the look for a shoot in Vogue.

Shortly after, the look evolved into the wrap dress, which turned the designer into a household name in the ’70s.

‘The DVF brand is really at the service of a woman’s beauty,’ Diane said.

‘It all happened with the wrap dress,’ added Talita, who explained that she is always hearing stories of people who wore the famous frock to celebrate milestone moments.

‘Everything happens in DVF, all these moments of big change, because you feel so confident in a DVF dress,’ she said. ‘We need to bring this back to younger generations who haven’t had the awareness of DVF and what it stands for and what it could make you feel.’

Photos of Talita wearing her grandmother’s wrap set were shared on social media on Friday after she teased the relaunch the day before.

‘I’m so excited to announce that we are bringing back fashion history! The timelessness and spirit of DVF is perfectly encapsulated with this outfit,’ she wrote on Instagram. ’50 years later this design is beautiful and wearable all the while being boldly printed. Can’t wait to see you all in this 1973 revival!

Diane posted a photo of Talita on her own Instagram page with a heartfelt caption.

‘I [love] this photo of my granddaughter Talita In this DVF Original. I was exactly Talita’s age when I first created this wrap top with a matching pant,’ she recalled.

‘Talita found it in our archives and decided to reissue it in a very small limited edition of DVF Originals,’ she added. ‘It is that very top that became later the iconic DVF wrap dress!!

‘I love It that Talita chose it, that she looks so gorgeous in it as we witness how modern and relevant it still is today! Feeling proud and grateful!’

The limited-edition set is being sold in pieces to mix and match. The Bobbie wrap top retails for $448 while the Finn pants are listed for $398 on the DVF website.

The brand has stayed true to the original design with just one change. Instead of being made out of cotton jersey like the set was in the ’70s, it now comes in a silk-cotton jersey, which is a signature DVF fabric.

Gift boxes with the wrap set have been sent to a number of celebrities, including Miranda Kerr and Sofia Richie.

Sofia, 23, shared a video of herself opening the ‘special delivery’ from Talita and Diane on her Instagram Stories on Thursday.

Talita had included a handwritten note along with the gift, which sat on top of the wrap top and set when she opened the box.

The box featured a collage of newspaper clippings about DVF over the years, and Sofia added her own personal touch by sharing photos of herself with Talita on top.

Over the past few years, Diane has restructured her company by hiring 33-year-old Gabby Hirata as president and CEO and naming Talita as co-chairwoman.

‘For me, what I hope is that [my successors] will maintain the spirit and the attitude,’ she told The Wall Street Journal last month. ‘Right now I’m putting all of my archive, all of my 50 years of experience, into this huge vault with the codes and the tricks and the knowhow and all of that.

‘Then it’s in the hands of young people — my granddaughter, Gabby, whoever else works here — to do it, respecting the values and not trying to be something that we aren’t. DVF is about respecting the woman and giving her the tools to be the woman she wants to be.’
