Didn’t get the memo? Five times Harry and William’s diaries have clashed this year – as the Sussexes make major Netflix announcement just hours after Princess Kate’s personal cancer update

With the Waleses and Sussexes having now operating separately for years, any timings clashes are quite likely given the families have no shared diary.

And therefore it was no surprise when a teaser for Harry and Meghan’s latest Netflix project was released just hours after Kate’s intimate cancer recovery video.

The clash was one of several occasions that Harry and William’s teams or their extended projects have made announcements at similar times already this year.

There is no evidence to suggest the timing of the Netflix video release was planned around Kate’s video – or that any other of their clashes were done on purpose.

But here, MailOnline looks at some of the recent examples of diary conflicts which could have been avoided if the brothers were not so estranged:

Kate cancer recovery and Harry’s new Netflix project

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Archewell Productions have worked on a new Netflix documentary called Polo, following elite global players of the sport.

The series is not due to air until December, but was advertised on Netflix’s social media yesterday – just a few hours after Kensington Palace released Kate’s emotional video.

Prince William joined the Princess in the clip to mark the end of her gruelling chemotherapy treatment amid an extremely difficult year for the family.

The Waleses’ video was filmed in Norfolk and featured their three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – as well as Kate’s parents.

But a Netflix teaser for Polo came out just hours later, with an announcement saying: ‘Polo is a new documentary series that follows elite global players and offers an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the fast-paced world of the sport.’

It added that the project was ‘from Archewell Productions and Boardwalk Pictures, premiering this December only on Netflix’.

One source told MailOnline that Netflix was announcing a ‘multi-title sports slate’, with Polo being one of several projects.

It was also stressed that this was not a trailer, but rather the release of first-look images and an announcement of a premiere month, as well as an official series title.

American Riviera Orchard and Diana Legacy

The Sussexes raised eyebrows in March as they made two announcements that clashed with William’s speech at an awards ceremony in honour of  Princess Diana.

The Prince of Wales attended the Diana Legacy Awards at the Science Museum in London while Harry made an appearance virtually from his Californian home.

William took the stage to AC/DC’s song Thundertrack, which he referred to as ‘George’s song’, before telling the audience that he and the Princess of Wales channel Diana’s legacy through their work.

The Duke of Sussex spoke to the group of winners before his office later released an edited clip of the conversation, whittling it down to his best moments.

His appearance, where winners told him he was ‘missed’ back in the UK, also came just hours after Meghan launched her latest business venture – luxury lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard.

The Sussexes went on to reveal the winners of their $100,000 NAACP Archewell Foundation Digital Civil Rights Award while William was still speaking and handing out awards to the winners.

King can’t see Harry then William gets his old regiment

Buckingham Palace announced William as head of Harry’s old regiment just an hour after the Duke of Sussex said his father the King would not see him during his trip to the UK in May.

When Harry arrived in the UK for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, he said his father had other commitments which meant they could not see each other in person.

Harry’s spokesperson confirmed that it was ‘unfortunately not possible’ for the pair to meet ‘due to His Majesty’s full programme’, as he returned to public duties after undergoing treatment for cancer.

And just two hours later, the Palace announced William would be made Colonel in Chief of the Air Army Corps – Harry’s former regiment.

Buckingham Palace also announced that William and Charles would attend a joint engagement, where the heir would be made the Colonel-in-Chief.

Prior to Prince Harry’s decision to step back from royal life four years ago, it was always thought he would take on the role that would see him take charge of the regiment he was toured Afghanistan with until 2014.

William and Harry won’t have a New York reunion

An announcement that Harry is set to embark on a packed solo trip to New York this month raised eyebrows amid claims that William could be there at the same time.

A spokesman for the Duke said he would ‘be in town to advance a number of his patronages and philanthropic initiatives’.

The visit is set to take place during the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week on September 23 to 27 and Climate Week between September 22 and 29.

There were also claims that William may be in New York at that time for the third annual Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit, at The Plaza Hotel on September 24.

However sources have since confirmed William is not due to attend the Earthshot event, and there was no change to his plans after Harry’s diary announcement.

Harry’s Invictus Games and William’s return to duties

Harry released a video to promote the Invictus Games last week on September 5 – the same day that William returned to royal duties after the summer holidays.

The Duke opened up about ‘healing and saving lives’ as he appeared in a clip shared to X by the official account for the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025.

Harry’s video came out as William carried out his first royal engagement since the summer break as he visited an exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in London.
