Disgraceful fan gestures and SPITS at rugby league referee

A fan has been caught on camera rudely gesturing and spitting at a rugby league referee in a disgusting act of disrespect.

NRL official Ashley Klein was leaving the field in Canberra on Sunday afternoon when a lowlife leaned over and spat at the referee as he headed into the tunnel.

The incident occurred after the Raiders’ late loss to the Penrith Panthers, ending their finals hopes.

The man appears to be wearing a Canberra Raiders hat and jacket.

He initially leans over attempting to get Klein’s attention, before rudely gesturing at him.

When Klein does not respond, the man instead resorts to revolting tactics, spitting in the referee’s direction.

Fortunately, the spittle does not hit Klein nor anyone else.

To the referee’s credit, he continues to walk forward without engaging with the fan, instead leaving it to a security guard to confront him.

Raiders coach Ricky Stuart, normally one of the most vocal critics of NRL referees, was disgusted by the act and wants the fan to receive the harshest punishment.

‘They’ve got a tough gig. We’ve all got tough gigs, but that is unacceptable,’ Stuart said in a press conference post-match.

The NRL and Canberra Raiders are investigating the incident.
