RB Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai has been given permission to travel to England for a medical ahead of his move to Liverpool.

The 22-year-old is set to head to Anfield after Liverpool triggered his £60million release clause.

Personal terms won’t be a problem for Szoboszlai, who can play in midfield or out wide. It is anticipated that he will sign a five-year contract.

Szoboszlai’s release clause was set to expire on Friday night but Liverpool triggered it in time.

The Hungary international, who has been capped by his country on 32 occasions, had been tracked by a number of top European clubs, but it has always been likely he would end up in the Premier League.

Newcastle had been monitoring Szoboszlai but are focusing on other targets instead.

Szoboszlai earns around £80,000-a-week at Leipzig but could receive a significant increase once he joins Liverpool.

Liverpool have good relations with Leipzig after signing Naby Keita and Ibrahima Konate from them.

On Friday, Fabio Carvalho went the other way on a season-long loan.

After commencing his senior career at Liefering, Szoboszlai signed for Red Bull Salzburg in 2018 before joining Leipzig in 2021.

While at Salzburg he won the Austrian title four times and the Austrian Cup on three occasions.

Since joining Leipzig he has won the DFB-Pokal twice.

Szoboszlai is set to become the second major arrival at Liverpool this summer after the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.
