Donald Trump makes bizarre claim that Melania ‘got to know’ Kim Jong Un despite him NOT taking the first lady on trips to meet North Korean dictator

  • Donald Trump claimed Melania Trump has ‘got to know’ Kim Jong Un despite not bringing the first lady to any of his meetings with the North Korean leader
  • ‘The first lady has gotten to know Kim Jong Un and I think she would agree with me, he is a man with a country that has tremendous potential,’ Trump said at G7
  • But Melania did not accompany the president to any of his three meetings with Kim when the two met in Singapore, Hanoi, and at the DMZ
  • The White House did not respond to DailyMail.com’s inquiry into how the first lady knows the North Korean leader

Donald Trump on Monday claimed Melania Trump ‘got to know’ Kim Jong Un despite not bringing the first lady to any of his meetings with the North Korean leader.

‘I also say that, by the way, with respect to North Korea. Kim Jong Un, who I’ve gotten to know extremely well, the first lady has gotten to know Kim Jong Un and I think she would agree with me, he is a man with a country that has tremendous potential,’ the president said during a press conference at the G7 summit in Biarritz, France.

But Melania Trump did not accompany the president to his June 12, 2018 meeting with Kim in Singapore nor did she join the two leaders at their February 2019 summit in Hanoi. She also was not present at their June meeting at the DMZ.

The White House did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com’s inquiry into how the first lady knows the North Korean leader.

Kim does not attend the G7 or the major gatherings of world leaders.

He also does not attend the annual United Nations General Assembly meeting – held in New York City every September – despite chatter he considered attending past gatherings, which the first couple also attend.

President Trump and Kim have exchanged letters. Trump said last September the two leaders ‘fell in love’ after Kim wrote him ‘beautiful letters.’

Trump has only met Kim three times – once at the Singapore summit, which was the first time an American president met with a North Korean leader.

The president also held a two-day summit with Kim in Hanoi earlier this year.

Additionally, Trump stopped in South Korea on his way home from the G20 meeting in Osaka, Japan, in June and met with Kim at the DMZ, becoming the first American president to set foot in North Korea.

Ivanka Trump did accompany her father on that trip.
