Drew Barrymore swears that the ‘meat’ from an aloe vera leaf was the magic cure-all for banishing redness from an allergic reaction on her cheek.
The 43-year-old explained on Instagram that she was having a bad reaction to something on her face — she thinks it was a bug bite — and she tried to make it go away with aloe vera gel.
When that didn’t work, she took the ‘meat’ of a live aloe plant stalk from her garden and applied it directly to her face for about three hours — and she says it worked like a charm.
Miracle: Drew Barrymore swears that the meat from an aloe vera leaf suctioned the redness out of a reaction on her face
Aloe: The 43-year-old had a bug bite on her cheek that would not go away despite Drew trying out different products, including bleaching creams and aloe vera gel
It wasn’t until the mother-of-two actually dug a chunk of the meat out of the leaf and applied it to her face that she actually saw immediate results
Drew runs her own make-up brand, Flower Beauty, and sometimes likes to talk about her favorite tricks and products on social media.
Earlier this month, she shared a series of posts with the hashtag #beautyjunkieweek, extolling the benefits of products like Evian facial spray mist, Juara Radiance Enzyme Scrub, and her own Flower Beauty lipstick.
But not all of her recommendations are things you buy in stores.
After keeping the chunk of aloe on her cheek for four hours, Drew shared this photo of the ‘meat’ once she removed it
‘I know this looks weird, but I had a giant bite or reaction on my face, right in the center of my “try not stare” cheek,’ she explained. ‘It was so distracting.
‘Anyway, I tried the age old myth of aloe Vera. Nothing. Then figuring I had nothing to loose, I dug out the meat of the live plant stalk, which I cut off a plant in my yard and then kept in the refrigerator to reuse, the juice you can squeeze out simply did nothing.
She placed a small chunk of it directly on her cheek and left it there for three or four hours.
She then sat outside in the sun, ‘enjoying an abnormally mellow Saturday,’ with ‘loads’ of SPF.
‘I noticed the piece of aloe vera meat turning red. It was actually suctioning out the red from my face.’
Finally, she removed the piece of aloe ‘meat’ and said: ‘And I am not kidding you, my red mark on my face was NOTICEABLY lighter. And I did it again the next day, with a much milder impact.
Must-have: Drew shared aloe can help cure cuts, scrapes, and especially burns, admitting, ‘It’s a must have to have around in any form’
‘But in two day it’s was gone. I had even tried bleaching creams, and noting was getting the red spot off my face until this natural remedy. Aloe Vera live plant meat worked to extract the red.’

She went on to explain other ways that aloe can help including for cuts, scrapes and especially burns admitting, ‘It’s a must-have to have around in any form. Thank you aloe vera. You continue to amaze me with your beauty and beauty secrets.’
After she was done using the aloe, Drew shared a photo of the end result with no filter on her face.
She captioned the selfie, ‘I cannot thank you enough for baring with me. For those few who benefit from this, there are too many who think I am a freak! I get it. Beauty junkie week is not for the faint of heart sometimes.’
‘I like to find real results without invasion and real attainable methods for working women and moms. I hope this didn’t make you all too sick,’ she added.
