A driver has narrowly avoided hitting a woman in a wheelchair who was going the wrong way around a busy roundabout.

The footage was captured on Stephen Quick’s dashcam as he drove along the A48 in Baglan, Wales.

In the video it is clear that Mr Quick is travelling in the middle lane around the roundabout as he approaches the exit.

As he gets nearer to the takeoff a figure in a wheelchair begins to come towards him up ahead on the right-hand side.

The wheelchair user appears to be a woman in her late 40s or early 50s and can be seen driving towards oncoming traffic.

She then seems to swerve directly towards Mr Quick’s car when he becomes level with her.

Mr Quick slows down as much as possible but is unable to stop on the busy carriageway.

He carefully manoeuvres around the woman who is now in the middle of the major road.

She is dressed in a fluorescent orange top, grey tracksuit bottoms, a black padded rain coat and black ballet pump shoes as she drivers the motorised wheelchair.

Mr Quick had been driving alone in the car as he returned from work at 4:45pm and said it had been raining just a short time before.

Speaking about the bizarre encounter, he said:  ‘To be honest it happened so quickly I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and I was just glad I was able to avoid her.

‘It was dangerous for me to stop as it’s on a fast-flowing part of the road as you come off the roundabout where cars accelerate to go down the dual carriageway.

‘If I had stopped on the I may have caused an accident.’

A local Facebook group has been set up to try and identify the woman. Mr Quick hopes she is tracked down quickly before anyone gets seriously injured

The woman is yet to be identified but Mr Quick hopes she is found soon and stopped from doing it again.

He added: ‘There is one local group on Facebook who is trying to find out who she was as they are rightly concerned that she may do this again and not be so lucky next time as apparently, she was seen doing the same thing last week.

‘Someone else on Facebook said he was travelling behind me and she was making out to other passing motorists that they were in the wrong.’
