It’s not everyday an elusive bird of prey can be seen up close in the wild.
But one doctor was lucky enough to capture incredible images of a falcon swooping and diving towards a drone above mesmerising Ukrainian landscape.
Enthralling photos show the bird of prey’s impressive wing span as it catches speed with the drone over the remarkable scenery of Dnieper River in the Cherkasy Oblast.
As the brown-flecked bird chases the drone, it is close enough for it to capture its incredible talons and hooked beak as it swoops over forked rivers and plush greenery, which wouldn’t look out of place in an episode of Game of Thrones.
In some photos, the bird’s dark flying shape appears to swerve and swoop in the distance as it soars fast over the countryside.
Children’s doctor, Dr. Evgeny Komarovsky, said: ‘A wonderful predator was interested in my drone. How special that its pose fit in the frame so to have a beautiful view behind.
He was not able to identify the inquisitive predator at first and so enlisted the help of a bird expert.
‘A consensus of ornithologists has come to the conclusion that we have before us a young falcon, Falco subbuteo, a small (dove-sized) bird of prey,’ he said.
‘By the way, it is a migratory bird, very soon it will fly away from us to Africa,’ he added.
The doctor says he arrived to fish, but ‘such a bird photoshoot is cooler than any fish!’
