Ed Kavalee: Radio star is brutally mocked during TV appearance after his breakfast show is axed

Comedian Ed Kavalee has copped a roasting on Have You Been Paying Attention? for his publicised axing from 2Day FM.

Ed, 45, was sensationally dumped from the radio network last week along with his Hughesy, Ed, and Erin breakfast co-stars Dave Hughes, 53, and Erin Molan, 40.

Appearing on the Channel Ten comedy quiz show on Tuesday, Ed shot death stares at the camera as his current employment situation was mercilessly mocked.

Host Tom Gleisner, 61, kicked off the sledging using Ed’s most recent career setback as a quiz question.

‘What a big week for Sydney’s 2Day FM Breakfast team. What have they just announced?’ the host cheekily asked.

Comedian Felicity Ward, 43, jokingly suggested that the trio had revealed an unconventional relationship.

‘They’ve formed a thrupple,’ Felicity joked.

Not letting the matter rest, fellow comedian Kitty Flanagan, 56, elicited roars of laughter from the panel and studio audience.

‘This one was special,’ she said. ‘They met their one listener.’

Ed was clearly unimpressed by the on-air mocking, shooting a death stare and slowly shaking his head as he endured the comedic barbs.

Logies host Sam Pang, 50, went in for the final blow, suggesting that the former radio trio had finally revealed their ‘secret sound.’

‘They announced the secret sound,’ he said. ‘It was the sound of listeners turning to another station.’

The Hughesy, Ed & Erin breakfast show was sensationally axed last week amid spiralling ratings and ‘commitment issues’.

The program managed a mere 3.6 market share in the last ratings survey.

2Day FM announced the news last Wednesday evening, informing listeners that they’ve opted to pull the plug on the show, and replace it with loveable night shift larrikins Jimmy Smith and Nath Roye, who currently host The Jimmy and Nath Show.

‘We’ve loved our time together on 2DayFM Breakfast, however, due to some of our families living in different cities we are unable to commit to 2025, so with a heavy heart we are moving aside so 2DayFM can find the team to take them forward in Breakfast,’ Hughsey, Ed and Erin said in a statement.

‘We are so grateful to Sydney for their support, and to double the number of listeners in three years is something we are immensely proud of, and we will miss each and every one of them.’

The announcement follows rumours Dave is getting set to reunite with Kate Langbroek, 58, to reboot their popular Hughesy and Kate show.

The pair last hosted Hit FM’s popular show in 2019, before Kate took a step back from the program to move to Italy.

In July, the Herald Sun reported that Melbourne is abuzz with rumours that Kate  and Dave are getting ready to bring back the program.

The publication reported last week that the popular comedian had been courted, along with Kate, to take over the Triple M Melbourne breakfast shift.
