Elegance coach reveals the 10 items you should never wear on a date

A vlogger who gives women advice on how to date rich men has revealed what not to wear if you want to impress your date.

London-based elegance coach Anna Bey, 34, has racked up 952,000 YouTube subscribers by offering her top tips to singletons desperate to bag a wealthy partner.

In her latest video, the Swedish-born ‘School of Affluence’ founder whose arguably controversial approach has landed her a wealthy banker boyfriend, advises women not to opt for risque clothing if they’re trying to impress their date.

Instead, they should wear feminine and expensive looking outfits, never bringing along cheap designer brands – however must avoid appearing too overdressed and high maintenance.

The list of what not to wear on a date also included too much make-up, fake tan, short, tight dresses and ‘masculine’ baggy clothing.

Too much cleavage

Anna believes that very risqué clothing may not be the best choice on a first date, as your date may see you as a ‘piece of meat’ rather than potential long-term partner.

‘When you’re showing everything on display like that the man is simply going to be staring into your boobs all night, he’s going to be having a conversation with your boobs.’

‘This is the only thing he sees throughout the date. He will be thinking sex, sex, sex on repeat. This is not strategic if you are looking for a serious committed relationship.’

However you don’t have to cover up completely, because the elegance coach believes a ‘little sneak peak is fine’, as long as it’s subtle.

Clothing that shows too much personality

The elegance coach believes that when it comes to first dates, 'less is more' and outfits shouldn't be too 'complicated'

The elegance coach believes that when it comes to first dates, ‘less is more’, and that while everyone has individual style, the first date, men enjoy clothing that is more simple, feminine and classic’.

‘I understand you want to show a little bit of your personality, that’s fine i’m not saying you cannot wear these type of clothes.

‘But this runaway fashion, leave it to when you are with your girlfriends, that is who will be impressed with these things, not the man.

She added: ‘If you think you are going to impress him with your super trendy fashionable looks, you are wrong.’

Bags from affordable brands (because he won’t buy you designer)

Anna suggested that wearing cheaper brands on a date with an 'affluent' man may not be a good idea. Stock image

Anna suggested that wearing cheaper brands on a date with an ‘affluent’ man may not be a good idea, as it means he’s less likely to splash out on more lavish presents in the future.

She believes dates could label you as ‘basic’ and will be less likely to consider purchasing other, more expensive brands such as Chanel or Hermes in the future.

‘You might be in the beginning of your level up journey so might not be able to afford anything fancier than that, and i’m not throwing shade for that, not at all, i’ve been there myself. But when you are setting the impression with an affluent man, you do not want to label yourself.’

She added: ‘You don’t have to put a bunch of labels on display, dress high quality, he doesn’t need to be the brands just make sure you hide all those labels’.

‘Vulgar’ platform stiletto heels

Anna says to always keep heels under 11cm for an evening date, under 8cm for the day – and strongly advises against any form of platform heel.

‘You are being vulgar if you wear a shoe like that’, she said. ‘First things first, always wear heels if you go on a date in the evening. I would also wear a heel if you’re going on a nice elegant lunch.’

The dating coach said the chosen heel ‘has to be reasonable’ and urged singletons ‘throw away platform heels as of right now’.

She advised wearing shoes that are a ‘little bit sensual, that feels a little bit teasing but nothing too provocative, nothing that makes it feel like you’re in a strip club.’

Short body-con dresses appear ‘desperate’

‘Ladies you don’t have to scream for attention, you don’t. I’m not telling you to dress conservatively like a nun, no.

‘I don’t think it’s appropriate on the date to come in your most conservative clothing, there are elegant clothes that are too conservative and a bit of a turn off when you are dating.

She says to always ‘show off your silhouette, look feminine, have flattering fabrics, flattering cuts and a flattering fit.

‘You definitely want to show off that you are a woman but you don’t want to give everything away because you’re not a cheap date.’

Expensive clothing and jewellery makes you look like a ‘diva’

According to Anna, wearing your most expensive clothing and jewellery all at once can make you appear 'overdressed, like a diva, and as if you're trying too hard'. Stock image

According to Anna, wearing your most expensive clothing and jewellery all at once can make you appear ‘overdressed, like a diva, and as if you’re trying too hard’.

‘This is a big mistake, especially if you are dating in the early stages, because first of all you don’t want him to think you are trying hard to impress him. You also don’t want to come across as someone so high maintenance like you are a diva.

‘I do think it’s important to signal pretty much instantly that you are  a different caliber, have expensive taste and enjoy a certain lifestyle and that you have certain boundaries.

‘But being overly high maintenance, nobody likes that sort of person and men are of course in today’s society very afraid of high maintenance women’.

Anna advises appearing sophisticated and elegant, but always ‘under dressing a little bit’ so your date thinks you’re not bothered about impressing them.

Baggy clothes will ‘fail to impress’

Anna says singletons should ditch 'masculine' and baggy clothing in exchange for more feminine outfits. Stock image

Anna says singletons should ditch ‘masculine’ and baggy clothing in exchange for more feminine outfits, which she believes will ‘impress’ your date more.

The vlogger claimed that while fashion trends may include androgynous clothing –  she believes a feminine style is the key to attracting the opposite sex and even branded baggy clothing ‘man repellent’.

‘We want to strive for a more feminine approach because that’s really what sells it to the man, in this case it’s so important to avoid masculine cuts and trends.’

She added: ‘I think you really need to focus on the feminine cuts, it’s all about femininity in the dating stages.’

He’ll be scared by heavy eye make-up

Anna believes that your date won't respond well if you opt for a heavy make-up look with dark eye shadow and a bold lip colour. Stock image

Anna believes that your date won’t respond well if you opt for a heavy make-up look with dark eye shadow and a bold lip colour.

She said: ‘Too much eye make up, clumpy mascara, thick heavy layers of foundation, strong lipstick and those really long eyelashes that are going to poke him in the eye.

‘Trust me, a man is going to be scared because he’s also going to be worrying and thinking throughout the date, I wonder how she looks without all of that’.

Anna believes that wearing too much make up ‘won’t make you look your best’ appears ‘unhygienic’, and increases the risk of products accidentally rubbing off on your date after a hug.

Shoulder pads make you look ‘masculine’

Anna says that while shoulder pads may be in fashion, if you're looking to impress your date, you may be better off avoiding this trend. Stock image

Anna says that while shoulder pads may be in fashion, if you’re looking to impress your date, you may be better off avoiding this trend.

She said: ‘These shoulder pads make a woman more masculine they dominate the shoulders, the worst is if a woman with already dominant shoulders wears something like that she looks so masculine she shoots herself in the foot’

She added: ‘Going back to the fashionista style, maybe you would impress your girlfriends with that type of look but I don’t think a man is going to find those shoulder pads sexy’.

Fake tan that will wreck his sheets

The dating coach says that fake tan is always best avoided on a date, insisting that the colour usually appears 'orange' and is likely to rub off on bed sheets. Stock image

The dating coach says that fake tan is always best avoided on a date, insisting that the colour usually appears ‘orange’ and is likely to rub off on bed sheets.

She said: ‘Even though we live in 2021, fake tan is still a bit orange regardless of how high quality the product is you buy.

‘The problem is also pretty much all self tans on the markets, they do rub off. Imagine if you go home with a man after an amount of time has passed and you feel comfortable being a little bit intimate, then the morning after when you look at the battle field these sheets look like a crime scene!’
