Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling tease their ‘Barbenheimer’ rivalry at Oscars 2024 before presenting a tribute to stunt performers

Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling delivered one of the most hilarious moments of Oscars 2024, where they teased their ‘Barbenheimer’ summer movie rivalry.

Blunt, 41, and Gosling, 43, took to the Oscar stage at the Dolby Theater to present a tribute to stunt performers, who many have maintained deserve their own Oscar.

Before they presented the tribute, though, they poked fun at their movies Barbie and Oppenheimer and the summer movie rivalry they created known as ‘Barbenheimer.’

They both took to the stage as Gosling stated, ‘Oh. Hello, Emily,’ though Blunt noted, ‘Oh, that was a bit of a frosty hello.’

Gosling offered, ‘Not at all. No, I’m just happy that we can finally put this Barbenheimer rivalry behind us.’

Blunt added, ‘That’s right. That’s right. Here’s Ken and Kitty. Just leaving all that fodder in the dust, guys, right?’

Though she fired the first jab at Gosling, stating, ‘Exactly. And the way this award season has turned out, wasn’t that much of a rivalry, so… just let it go.’

Gosling fired back, ‘Oh. It’s true. You guys are doing very well you know? Congratulations,’ referring to the multiple Best Picture awards Oppenheimer has racked up this awards season.

He added, ‘But you know, I think I kind of figured out why it’s called “Barbenheimer” and they didn’t call it “Oppenarbie.” Well, I think you guys are on the tail end of that because you were riding Barbie’s coattails all summer.’

The Oscar attendees burst into laughter, as they showed a shot of Barbie star/producer Margot Robbie laughing.

Blunt added, ‘Thanks for kensplaining that to me, all right, Mr. “I need to paint my abs on to get nominated.” You don’t see Robert Downey doing that,’ as they showed Downey and his wife Susan laughing.

Gosling added, ‘You’re kidding. This is insane, Emily. This has got to stop. We got to squash this! We’re here to celebrate the stunt community.’

Blunt added, ‘Massively, yes,’ as Gosling stated, ‘They’ve been such a crucial part of our industry since the beginning of cinema.’
