EMILY PRESCOTT: Ryan Reynolds moves in on Ted Lasso’s turf as Wrexham AFC owner buys £4m London home

Ryan Reynolds buys a £4million home in the South-West London setting of the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso

He’s the Hollywood star who’s been dubbed a ‘real-life Ted Lasso’ after buying Wrexham AFC, in an echo of the football-club comedy.

Now Ryan Reynolds is literally moving in on Lasso’s territory, buying a £4 million home in South-West London, where the hit Apple TV+ series is set.

Deadpool star Reynolds has said that he and his actress wife Blake Lively love coming to Britain, and sources tell me they’ve been looking to put down roots for some time.

Earlier this year it was reported that the couple had bought a £1.5 million home in rural North Wales, close to the actor’s beloved football club, but that proved wide of the mark.

They moved to the five-bedroom London home while Reynolds films the third instalment of his action movie franchise in the capital – although shooting has now paused because of the Hollywood actors’ strike.

He certainly has money to spend on property. In March, a mobile phone company he had a substantial stake in was sold for £1 billion. And in 2020, his gin brand was sold in a £470 million deal.

Still, for the price of their London home they could buy 20 in Wrexham, where the average property price is £199,726.

A source close to the couple said: ‘Ryan and Blake just love Britain, it has become a real second home for them. They have made some really good friends in the UK, so it made sense to have a proper base here.

‘While they love Wrexham, a lot of their work is taking place in London so it seemed to make more sense to be there rather than Wales. The UK is small compared to America, so nowhere is actually that far.’

South-West London, especially Richmond, is popular with A-listers. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie spent a large amount of time living there, as did Jason Sudeikis, while playing Ted Lasso, the American manager of fictional AFC Richmond.

Reynolds, 46, and fellow actor Rob McElhenney bought Wrexham in 2021 and charted their exploits with the club in a TV series, culminating in their promotion to the Football League after 15 years out of it.

In the process Reynolds and Gossip Girl star Ms Lively, 35, have immersed themselves in the UK, and last month visited the Great British Bake Off tent.
