  • He has also been named the Football Writers’ Associations’ Player of the Year

Erling Haaland has been named the Premier League Player of the Month for April in the latest achievement to his record-breaking season.

The news was confirmed on Twitter from the Premier League’s official Twitter account, just one hour after it was revealed that he had also been voted the Football Writers’ Association’s Footballer of the Year.

April was another excellent month for the Norwegian who scored six goals and broke more records.

Haaland scored braces against Southampton and Leicester, before also netting against Fulham and title rivals Arsenal.

His goal against Fulham moved him level on the Premier League’s single season scoring record of 34 – tied with Alan Shearer and Andy Cole.

It is a record he now holds by himself after netting in the 3-0 victory over West Ham last week.

He also became the first player since Tom Waring in 1931 to score 50 goals across all competitions in a season.

Among other players nominated for the Player of the Month award included team mate Kevin De Bruyne, Diogo Jota, Alexander Isak, Ollie Watkins, Callum Wilson, Eberechi Eze and Dominic Solanke.

Remarkably despite his brilliant season, it is the first time he was taken the prize since he claimed it following his first month in the Premier League.

‘I am really happy to win this award for the second time this season, I am grateful to everyone who voted for me,’ Haaland told Man City’s official website.

‘We are in such a vital part of the season and winning all of our Premier League games throughout April was important. I am delighted to have helped the team by scoring goals and we just need to keep going until the end.’

Haaland has produced a masterful season with his goal tally in all competitions currently up at 51, and he won 82 per cent of the FWA vote, the biggest margin of victory since the Premier League began.

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka finished as runner-up, with his Gunners team-mate Martin Odegaard third.

Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne finished fourth, with Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford fifth. In total, 15 players received votes.

The 22-year-old becomes the first City player to win the FWA award, which has been presented since 1948, since centre back Ruben Dias in 2020-21.

‘To win the Football Writers’ Award in my first season in English football is an honour,’ Haaland said.

‘I try every single day to be the best I can be, and to be recognised like this means a lot to me.

‘I have loved my time at City so far – my teammates are incredible, and they provide me with the chances to score goals.

‘I want to thank all of them, because I could not have won this award without them.’
