Rugby league legend Cooper Cronk is set to announce his retirement from the sport.

Cronk’s club, the Sydney Roosters, have booked a 10am press conference at their home base, the Sydney Cricket Ground, to make what they say is ‘a significant announcement’.

The 360-game veteran has reportedly told head coach Trent Robinson he will stop playing at the end of the season.

Cronk played most of his career with the Melbourne Storm before moving to the Roosters as his wife, Fox Sports presenter Tara Rushton, wanted to live in Sydney.

He has twice won the Dally M Medal, awarded to the best player in the NRL, and has represented both Queensland and the Kangaroos.

Cronk won four NRL premierships with the Storm although two were later stripped due to salary cap breaches.

He joined the Roosters in 2018 and had an immediate impact, helping steer the team to that season’s title.
