Foreman Keith rips into Gian Ottavio on The Block following ‘dangerous’ demolition: ‘If that falls on someone, you’re in big trouble’

The Block’s Gian Ottavio caught the ire of foreman Keith during Tuesday night’s episode. 

The Sydney newlywed partnered with Steph was doing demo work on his house when he accidentally cut the wrong ceiling joists.

An anxious-looking Gian was forced to explain himself to Keith, as the heavy joists rested on a ladder. 

‘I was demo-ing the room next to the studio bedroom and I was doing work with the carpenters,’ Gian began, trying to explain himself. 

‘I made my way around the ceiling and I had cut all the ceiling joists and as I was cut the last one, I was like holy sh*t, this ceiling is going to come down,’ he added.

Despite it being a rookie error, Keith was left less-than-impressed.

‘Dangerous mate, like really dangerous,’ he said, clearly annoyed. 

Keith went on to question if Gian sought advice from foreman Dan or any of the other builders on site before making the cuts. 

‘No, I just heard everything has to come out so I went at it,’ Gian said. 

Keith continued to lecture him over the cuts, saying he needs to refer to methods in order to carry out the work safely. 

‘As you can see mate, if that falls on someone, you’re in big trouble,’ he said. 

‘It’s a major issue. It’s probably a couple hundred kilos of weight, that can just come down directly on your head, you’d be in hospital at least,’ Keith warned. 

Each team must submit a safe work statement on how they would go about demolition work safety.

Builder Aidan referred Gian to his safety work statement for future demolition work.  

‘For the next thing you’re going to pull down, I need you to come and see Keith and talk through exactly what you’re going to do,’ Aidan lectured. 

‘We need to make sure this doesn’t happen again,’ he added. 

An apologetic Gian said it won’t happen again.
