A former college football star drowned during a picnic with his family at a state park in Georgia.
Tyshon Dye, once a running back for the Clemson football team, was swimming at Richard B. Russell Skate park with his two brothers on Friday afternoon when he got into trouble and couldn’t make it back to the shore.
Tragically, his brothers watched the 25-year-old ex athlete go under water but were unable to help him, Elbert County coroner Chuck Almond said.

Dye’s body was recovered later that afternoon, his death was ruled an accidental drowning, he said.
Dye graduated form Clemson with a degree in parks, recreation and tourism management in May 2017.
He was a part of the for the Clemson Tigers for two years and played a role in the 2016 national championship winning side.
‘All of our hearts are just broken,’ Head Coach Dabo Swinney said. ‘Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
‘I can honestly say Tyshon Dye is one of the sweetest souls I’ve ever been associated with or coached.
‘We’re just all heartbroken tonight, and we’re praying for his family and know that he’s been called home.’
Dye was an All-Region player at Elbert County High School, playing for three seasons at Clemson as a reserve running back where he sustained injuries that impaired his career.

He transferred to East Carolina for his final season of eligibility.
Dye, who red-shirted in 2013 with a back injury, rushed for 351 yards on 76 carries and five touchdowns in his three seasons with the Tigers.
At East Carolina he rushed for 217 yards on 50 carries in the 2017 season.
As a junior at Elbert County, Dye had 1,561 yards and 21 touchdowns but was limited by injury as a senior and played in only seven games, totaling 817 yards and 12 touchdowns.
