GAP and Oroton host massive sales after huge losses

While Boxing Day sales keep amateur shoppers busy, more savvy savers would be better off grabbing a bargain at closing down sales.

Fashion retailer GAP is intending to close its six Australian stores by January 31, 2018 – meaning everything must go in the next few weeks.

Luxury accessories brand Oroton is also offering massive discounts, after being placed into voluntary administration last month.

Both brands are offering their wares at rock bottom prices to shoppers in a bid to clear their shelves, with GAP marking up to 80 per cent off their goods, and Oroton offering hundreds of dollars off some stock.

Oroton teamed up with GAP in 2013 to launch the clothing brand’s Australian stores, before making the decision to end the partnership following multi-million dollar losses in August, The Sydney Morning Herald earlier reported.

GAP are offering 60 per cent off all denim jeans, and even store fittings and mannequins are up for grabs.

Making the deal more tempting, even they have been discounted by 25 per cent.

Oroton brought GAP to Australia in 2013, but announced they would be cutting ties in August this year after multi-million dollar losses

The US clothing brand has four stores in NSW: Parramatta, Westfield Sydney, Miranda and Macquarie Shopping Centre, and two in Victoria: Melbourne Central and Chadstone Shopping Centre.

Oroton has been issued a last-minute saving grace, with shareholder Will Vicars to buy the company from administrators Deloitte, News.com.au reported.

Despite the brand’s sudden rescue, heavy discounts on bags, scarves and other accessories remain in place on the Oroton website.

The Ashbury medium clutch has been reduced from $445 to $178, and one pair of sunglasses has dropped from $215 to $86.

Australians were expected to spend $2.36 billion on Boxing Day, according to the National Retail Association – with shoppers in NSW and Victoria expected to spend $771m and $740m respectively on December 26, and Queenslanders an estimated $397m.
