Gary Oldman’s mother, Kathleen, has died, aged 98 – just three months after seeing her son win the Best Actor Oscar for Darkest Hour.
A statement posted on Thursday to the Instagram account shared by Oldman, 60, and his wife Gisele Schmidt confirmed the news, stating: ‘Kathleen Oldman 1919 – 2018.’
It continued with a heartfelt tribute, referring to Kathleen as ‘Kay’ – as she was known affectionately by her loved ones.

The tribute read: ‘It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Kay Oldman, Mother of Gary Oldman, Jacqueline Wyles, and Maureen Lesley Bass.
‘Kay was a woman of great talent and mirth, keeping her loved ones smiling with her quick wit and ready repartee until the end. For her family and friends she was a source of warmth, inspiration, amusement, support and she will be deeply missed.
‘We were very fortunate to have her in our lives and were given time to say goodbye. The past few days have been heartbreaking but also filled with love, laughter, and celebration of a life fully lived.
‘We mourn and grieve but loved ones never leave us as long as we keep their memories with us. Kay touched so many of us, so she goes on in our thoughts and in our hearts!

In March, Oldman thanked his mother as he clutched his Oscar in front of Hollywood’s best and brightest in Los Angeles, delivering an emotional speech and dedicating his award to her.
‘Put the kettle on mum, I’m bringing Oscar home,’ he said, to much applause, as Kathleen watched from her two-up two-down in south London, where she is also thought to have died.
The British star won the statue for Best Actor after wowing the Academy and audiences alike with his powerful performance as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour.

While Oldman resides in a mansion with fifth wife Schmift in the fancy suburb of Los Feliz, LA, Kathleen stayed put in the same neighbourhood in the Deptford area of London where Oldman was born and grew up.
A Twitter post on one of Oldman’s fan accounts posted: ‘We are heartbroken and so sorry to hear the sad news about the passing of the wonderful Kathleen Oldman.
‘Deepest condolences and much love to the whole family in the hard times. May She Rest In Peace (1919-2018).’
